Norbeck Animal Clinic

Norbeck Animal Clinic is a well-established, full-service, small animal veterinary hospital providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care.  Our services and facilities are designed to assist in routine preventive care for both, young and elderly pets. We take pride in serving you and your pet with a complete preventative and medical care as they may be necessary during your pet’s lifetime with vaccinations, spaying/neutering, training, etc. We are conveniently located on the very accessible Norbeck Road in Silver Spring, close to Rockville and Olney in Montgomery County Maryland. We also welcome patients from the Washington D.C. area and Northern Virginia.

Norbeck Animal Clinic provides a broad spectrum of diagnostic procedures through in-house testing and the use of external laboratories. We also work closely with local practices when special diagnostic procedures are required. The facility includes a well-stocked pharmacy, in-hospital surgery suite, in-house x-ray capabilities and a closely supervised hospitalization area. At Norbeck Animal Clinic we strive to offer sound pet health advice and also optimal veterinary care and professional training, thus allowing you to enjoy your healthy and well behaved companion for a maximum number of years.  Our entire health care team is committed to providing personal attention to the unique concerns of each individual pet owner.  Our job is not only to treat your pet when he or she isn’t feeling well, but also to help you learn how to keep your best friend happy and healthy.

Doctors arrive in the clinic at 9:00 a.m. and they work on a schedule, by appointment only.

  • Ivanov Castellanos, DVM, Practice Owner

    Ivanov Castellanos, DVM, Practice Owner

    Better known as Dr. Ivanov, he finished veterinary school at the National University of Colombia were he also acted as a clinical lecturer for almost four years.  In the USA, he went to Iowa State University for additional training and certification and also performed as a clinical instructor for four months.  

    Dr. Ivanov has an Internship in Medicine and Surgery of small animals from The Ohio State University. He joined Norbeck Animal Clinic as a relief veterinarian in 2004 but soon after, he fell in love with the clientele, the pets and the area, which motivated him to buy the practice in 2007.

    Dr. Ivanov still participates actively in academia; he is currently (as of May 2011) an international lecturer for veterinary programs at University of Caldas, in Colombia and on-line lecturer for the Association of Veterinarians Specialized on Small Animals, in Colombia – South America.

  • Nathan Wehrli, DVM

    Nathan Wehrli, DVM

    Dr. Wehrli graduated from Tufts School of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. He worked in private practice in New Hampshire until 2005, then moved to Maryland.

    His special interests include surgery, and seeing exotic pets such as rabbits, rodents, and reptiles.  Outside of work he enjoys hiking, kayaking, reading, gardening, home improvement projects, and brewing beer.  He is happily married.  He, his wife, and daughter live with Stanky and Rosencrantz the chinchillas, and Cameron the elderly iguana.

    Jacqui Zelepsky, DVM

    1. Dr. Zelepsky is a 2009 graduate of Michigan State University and completed an exotic animal medicine and surgery internship at a specialty animal hospital in Gaithersburg, MD in 2010.  While she loves treating dogs and cats, her special interest lies in exotic animals and pocket pets, including birds, small mammals and reptiles.
    Dr. Zelepsky lives in Columbia, MD with her two dogs, Shaina and Violet, and her cat, Macy.  In her free time, she enjoys many outdoor activities, including running and photography.

    Angela Maria Suarez, General Manager

    Ms. Suarez is an Industrial Engineer with extensive experience in management.

    She cares for the optimization of all services provided at Norbeck Animal Clinic and enjoys learning more every day about veterinary hospital management through daily operations, continued education and close contact with her valued clientele, at Norbeck Animal Clinic.

    She has an elderly dog, Oliver and a cat China that get along harmoniously.

    Dana Pupkar, Office Manager

    Dana has been part of Norbeck Animal Clinic for over 19 years. She began her work at Norbeck Animal Clinic as a technician after working in other veterinary hospitals for several years. Later, she took the exciting role of Office Manager. Dana was born in Pennsylvania and was raised among many family pets. Dana and her husband are “owned” by their dogs “Reno” (Mastiff), “Piper”(Mix),"Tug"(Mix), "Luke" (Mix),  four cats, three horses, a donkey, two goats and two frogs.  In her free time, she enjoys riding and showing her horses.

    Eileen Vyskocil, Head Receptionist

    Eileen has been a part of the Norbeck Animal Clinic team since 1998. She has a great love for animals, especially her 7 year old Rottweiler named “Tasha”.

    In her spare time, she loves watching hockey (Go CAPS) and spending time with family & friends.

    Rachel has been a veterinary technician for 6 years, with 4 years of emergency and critical care.

    Ms. Kelly is currently working on her veterinary technician degree from San Juan College. In her free time she trains horses, and spends time with her 3 dogs, cat, and horse.

    Our groomer is a true animal lover. Trained in New York, he is a perfectionist with a great aesthetic eye for grooming.

    Mr. Correa enjoys helping our clients reach the desired “look” for their pets. He understands that all dogs are different and have different grooming needs to suit their breed and life style!  Mr. Correa is a proud owner of a show Argentinian Dogo named “Zeta”.

    Cathy Darling has worked at Norbeck since June 2011. When she’s not at work you’ll find her out and about with her son Logan, boyfriend Kevin,  dogs Kaylee and Jackson, and fat-cat, Little Bear. Cathy also works with and rides horses in her spare time.

    Andrea Howard/Receptionist

    Andrea Howard graduated with a Psychology degree from UMBC. However, she found that her real passion was working with animals. She has years of experience working in animal hospitals and absolutely loves it! She frequently takes in foster dogs and has adopted a Miniature Pincher named Snickers and a Maltese named Zero.

    Besides animals, Andrea also likes to travel. She is very family-oriented and considers her two younger sisters her best travel companions. Andrea has lived all over the country, including California and South Carolina. She once drove across country with her Golden Retriever Lab and German Shepard Rottweiler in the back of her two-door car!

    Kelley has been in the animal care industry for 4 years and an animal lover her whole life. 
    As a military spouse she has moved across the country with her husband Travis and her two pugs, 
    "Max" and "Maple". 
    When not at work Kelley likes to participate in competitive runs and enjoying volunteering at 
    the local pug rescue associations.
